(a) to (c): A High Powered Commission on Teacher Education under the Chairmanship of Justice Late J.S.Verma, former Chief Justice of India, was constituted by the Hon’ble Supreme Court to examine various aspects relating to the teacher education system in the country. One of the recommendations of the said Commission is to review the existing norms and standards for the various teacher education programmes.
In the light of the said recommendation, the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has reviewed the existing regulatory functions of the NCTE regarding grant of recognition and related functions, and has hosted the proposals on the website of the NCTE for public views and feedback from all stakeholders.
